Udu communities, Ruling Houses pay homage to Udu monarch

In demonstration of total support, love and undivided loyalty to the reign of the new Ovie of Udu Kingdom devoid of acrimonies, misgivings and discord, all 7 ruling houses in Udu Kingdom have taken turn to pay homage to the new Udu Monarch, HRM (Engr.) Mike Ogheneovo Orugbo, JP, KP, Okporua 1, bringing with them various kinds of gifts and foodstuff, live cows, rams as well as cash gifts to celebrate the ascension of their King to the throne.

The seven (7) ruling houses; Ovwian, Orhuwhorun, Adadja, Okporua, Owhorhu, Uloho and Owhrode came with traditional dances, folk songs and music to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Udu people. The occasion was well attended by prominent chiefs, sons and daughters of Udu from across board, all trooping to the temporary palace of the Ovie at Ekete Waterside to pay homage and pledge their loyalty to the reign of the new monarch.

The first ruling house to breast the tape was Ovwian ruling house, comprising Ovwian, Owhase, Ekete Inland and Ekete Waterside communities on Monday June the 16th while Orhuwhorun ruling house comprising of Orhuwhorun, Igbogidi, Okpaka, Opete and Enerhen communities took their turn at the palace on Tuesday June 17, 2025 with quality songs and music in celebration of the King.

On Wednesday June 18, 2025, it was the turn of Owhrode Ruling House and Okporua, the ruling house of the King to pay homage to the King.

Led by Chief Eddie Ono-Sorhue, Owhrode ruling house comprises Owhrode, Erhiephihor, Ovworhokpokpor and Otor-Udu communities and Okporua led by the Chairman of the Interim Management Committee, Engr. Alex Neyin comprises Oghior, Ukpiovwin, Okolor-Waterside, Okolor-Inland and Ogbe-Udu communities came in their numbers to honor the King.

The Udu Local Government Chairman, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, FCIA also a prominent son of Okporua Ruling House and Vice Chairman of the Interim Management Committee was fully on ground and thrilled the excited audience to traditional folk songs.

Adadja ruling house comprising of Emadadja, Ubogo, Ukperherhen, Ekrota, Ugbisi and Obubu and Aloha ruling house comprising of Egini, Ujevwu and Oleri communities took their turn on Friday June 20, 2025 while the Owhorhu ruling house comprising of five communities including Aladja, Ayama, Epame, Ikperha and Egiegi, the senior son of Udu took their turn on Monday June 23, 2025.

In all, it was fun, so much to celebrate and moments of incredible display of support from all 32 communities from the seven ruling houses of Udu, affirming to all who cared to know that the ascension of HRM (Engr.) Mike Orugbo, Okporua 1 has brought all Udu sons and daughters to be one united family in the Kingdom.

In his response to all the groups during the visits, the Ovie, HRM (Engr.) Mike Ogheneovo Orugbo, Okporua 1 blessed the land, appreciating the people for their undivided loyalty and peaceful conduct of all the tendencies in the Kingdom, who have resolved to suspend all acrimonies in clear demonstration of their loyalty to the new King.

The monarch specially thanked the chiefs for suspending all issues amongst them in deference to his reign, promising to rule with justice, equity and fairness in the discharge of his duties to the Kingdom.

He also charged the chiefs, community leaders, women and youth leaders to maintain the peace in their respective communities, harping on the place of unity in working to make Udu great.

He urged parents to guide their children and wards against vices to attract investments and development to the Kingdom.

The Okporua 1 reiterated his promise to facilitate the establishment of ICT hubs in strategic towns in the Kingdom to harness the digital potential and skills of the youths.

Some of the chiefs and nobles who led the people from the various ruling houses to pay homage to the throne were Chief Sam Odibo, the Otota of Udu Kingdom, Chief Koro Tagbovwere, Okpruhiovwin of Udu Kingdom, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, the Udu Council boss, Chief Eddie Ono-Sorhue, Barr Richard Kpedi, Elegbete Moses Odibo, Engr Alex Neyin, Chief Henry Afure Sakpra, Chief Jite Brown, Chief Austin Emaduku, and Chief C.C.I Whiliki.

Others are Chief Solomon Kpomah, Secretary, Udu Council of Chiefs, Chief Robert Balance, Chief B.J Egbetamah, Chief Moses Uparan, Chief Johnbull Asun, Chief Francis Orogun of Daddy Bakery, Barr Pat Willie, Chief Bright Gbada, Chief Friday Orugbo, Chief S. Onovughe, a member of the Udu Traditional Council from Enerhen, Chief Gowon Ogheneovo, Chief Austin Lafua, Chief Udumarho Segba, Chief Peter Esiso Akunuhor and many others from across the kingdom.

Many traditional music exponents, including Egbeku Kenairu of Uloho, Matthew Koyo of Okporua, the daughter of the Late Sir Juju Debala of Aladja, and others, took turns to thrill the people with beautiful renditions of Udu musical lyrics while different Udje dance bands of the Udu people were also on ground to do what they know best.

In all, it was an incredible celebration of culture, the reenactment of the historical values of the people through songs and music, a carnival of sorts and a clear demonstration of total acceptance of the new King in unmistakable terms. The smiles and laughter were genuinely contagious, the back-slapping and magnificent display of culture was exhilarating and the colourful radiance of the gorgeous appearance of the chiefs was superb.
