….Insists Next NYCN President Should Come from the North
By Ibrahim Hassan-Wuyo
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s efforts in promoting youth development across the country.
This commendation was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the Northern Stakeholders Forum of the Council, held over the weekend in Kaduna.
Signed by Bagudu Joseph, Chairman of the Northern Stakeholders Forum of the NYCN, the communiqué also acknowledged the contributions of the Federal Government, state governors, and security agencies in addressing youth-related issues, particularly insecurity. It called on all stakeholders to intensify efforts in tackling insecurity in the Northern region.
The forum urged Northern youths to steer clear of violence, the use of illicit drugs, and other criminal activities, emphasizing the need for discipline and responsible citizenship.
The stakeholders also expressed appreciation to the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, for his inclusive leadership style, while appealing for a reorganization of youth activities nationwide to enhance performance and impact.
Furthermore, the forum praised NYCN President, Ambassador Sokubo Seraigbe Sokubo, for maintaining a firm stance on a peaceful transition process that would usher in a new set of leaders for the council.
Reiterating its position on leadership rotation, the forum insisted that the next NYCN president should emerge from the North, in line with the Council’s constitutional provision for rotational leadership between the North and South.
“Any attempts to obstruct the return of the NYCN presidency to the North will be strongly rejected,” the communiqué stated.
