Fashion designer and creative director Bolade Akindahunsi is steadily shaping Callies Place into a distinct voice within Nigeria’s bespoke womenswear landscape, blending ceremonial tradition with contemporary design precision. Built on the philosophy of intentional dressing, the brand focuses on garments created for significant life moments, prioritising structure, movement, and emotional resonance over fleeting trends.

With an academic background in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Akindahunsi brings an analytical approach to fashion that informs every stage of her design process. Her understanding of fabric behaviour, proportion, and construction allows garments to be engineered with purpose rather than simply assembled. She began her technical training under a master tailor in Ekiti State before expanding into styling work that refined her sense of proportion and personal expression. This dual foundation of technical rigour and editorial sensibility defines the Callies Place aesthetic.

Callies Place operates primarily through bespoke commissions and made-to-order pieces, complemented by corporate wear, limited vintage shirt releases, and experimental thrift-flip designs. Each garment is developed through a structured consultation process that allows clients to influence fabric selection, fit, and detailing. This client-centred approach has enabled the brand to grow entirely through word-of-mouth referrals, reflecting strong market trust and consistency. Akindahunsi’s work has also earned recognition through a nomination for the Under 30 CEO Award for her entrepreneurial contribution to the creative industry.

Among the brand’s signature works is ‘The Aurelia Wedding Dress’ released in 2022, a sculptural bridal gown that balances classic elegance with contemporary structure through a mermaid silhouette, illusion neckline, and embellished sleeves. In 2024, The Heritage Corset further demonstrated the brand’s design philosophy by reinterpreting Ankara textile through modern shaping techniques, offering a piece that bridges cultural expression with disciplined construction and versatile styling.

Currently, Akindahunsi is developing a ceremonial capsule collection that explores the relationship between Nigerian tradition and minimalist contemporary design, alongside a made-to-order streetwear line produced in limited runs to preserve quality and originality. She is also documenting her design process across digital platforms, sharing insights into bespoke construction, textile transformation, and sustainable fashion practices. Reflecting on her work, she notes, “I realised I wasn’t just making clothes, I was building the thing people wear when they need to feel most themselves.” As Callies Place prepares for broader visibility through fashion showcases and strategic partnerships, the brand continues to establish itself as a reference point for intentional, culturally grounded design.
