Poor Performance: Afrilearn launches software solution for Nigerian schools

Nigerian edtech company, Afrilearn, has launched a new School Management Software (SMS), offering a comprehensive digital solution to improve operations and academic performance across the country’s schools.

The software, designed specifically for the Nigerian education system, integrates essential school functions such as lesson delivery, student assessment, fee tracking, performance analytics, and parent communication into a single, easy-to-use platform.

Afrilearn’s co-founders, Isaac Oladipupo and Gabriel Olatunji-Legend, said the platform was born out of years of frustration with Nigeria’s outdated school management processes and a desire to create tools that truly serve students, teachers, and school administrators.

“Afrilearn SMS is not just about technology, it’s about restoring time, clarity, and confidence to the education process. Schools using the platform now save an average of two hours per staff member, per week. That’s time teachers can reinvest in students”, said Oladipupo.

Afrilearn first gained attention during the COVID-19 lockdowns with its learning platform, ClassNotes.ng, which provided free, curriculum-aligned lessons to hundreds of thousands of students. While the platform served as a lifeline during school closures, the team saw deeper structural challenges facing Nigerian schools—inefficient processes, lack of data, and teacher burnout among them.

The newly launched SMS platform builds on those insights, offering features such as offline access, animated video lessons, AI-powered student performance tracking, and automatic report generation. Designed with empathy and local knowledge, it also addresses practical challenges like inconsistent internet access and high administrative workload.

According to Olatunji-Legend, “We’ve lived the reality of this education system. We’ve built Afrilearn to meet schools where they are and help them move forward—intelligently and sustainably.”

Schools that have adopted Afrilearn SMS report measurable improvements in both classroom efficiency and student outcomes. At Famak British School, Principal Daniel Odobo, noted increased parental engagement, reduced teacher stress, and improved academic performance, among students.

Parents are also seeing the difference. John Alegeh, a father in Abuja, credited Afrilearn with his son’s strong performance in the latest JAMB exam—a year when national results were widely considered poor. “Afrilearn played a huge role in helping my son prepare. The platform made learning engaging and accessible,” he said.

Since its inception, Afrilearn has reached over 3 million learners and gained recognition from international bodies such as UNICEF, the African Union, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Now, with the rollout of Afrilearn SMS, the company is positioning itself not just as a digital content provider, but as a full-scale infrastructure partner for African education.

The software is currently being adopted by early partner schools, with support from Afrilearn’s onboarding team to ensure a smooth transition.

“We’re offering more than a platform. We’re offering freedom—freedom from paperwork, from chaos, from falling behind”, Oladipupo said.
