The Pastor of Acts Baptist Church, Ogudu, Lagos, Rev. Dr. Matthew Adejumo, has called on Nigerians, especially Christians, to be diligent and committed to continuous learning in order to positively impact their generation.
He made the call during the Convocation and Golden Jubilee Thanksgiving Service held in honour of Rev. Dr. & Mrs. David Oluwafolakemi Afolabi at Zion Baptist Church, Elepe, Ikorodu, Lagos.
Speaking on the theme “Studying to Fulfil Life’s Essence,” Rev. Adejumo emphasized the importance of acquiring knowledge. He noted that many people remain stranded in life because they lack the necessary understanding to navigate challenges.
“If you want to be approved in life, you must search, research, charge, recharge, and be in charge,” he said. “Those ahead of you know something you don’t. If knowledge seems costly, try ignorance—it has destroyed many with big dreams and better opportunities.”
He added that studying goes beyond formal education and simply requires a willingness to seek knowledge, even at a basic level.
Also speaking, Rev. Dr. Femi Ajayi, Pastor of Victoryland Baptist Church, Isolo, described the celebrant, Rev. David Afolabi, as humble and disciplined.
“He has been under my tutelage for years. He is a well-behaved, humble man, and I take great delight in him,” Ajayi said. “My advice to him is to maintain integrity and humility. Pride precedes destruction, but humility brings promotion.”
In his remarks, Rev. Afolabi expressed gratitude to God for His grace and love over his life, family, and ministry. He also appreciated the support of his senior colleagues, congregation, and extended family.
