Ambrose Alli University medical students celebrate Dr. Eigbedion

A routine lecture at Ambrose Alli University’s College of Medicine turned into a heartfelt celebration on Wednesday when students from the MED 2016 Batch B Clinical Set surprised their lecturer, Dr. Andrew Eigbedion, with a special birthday gift.

The class, which began slightly behind schedule at 1:18 p.m., was focused on “The School Health Programme.” For two hours, Dr. Eigbedion led the students through a detailed and engaging session, ending at exactly 3:18 p.m.

As he prepared to leave the classroom, the class representative, Mr. Benson Oyakhilomen, politely interrupted with a surprise announcement. In the moments that followed, the students presented Dr. Eigbedion with a birthday gift—a simple but meaningful gesture that left him visibly moved.

“I am sincerely grateful for this act of love,” Dr. Eigbedion said, thanking the students warmly. “This is a moment I will remember for a long time.”

The gesture was more than just a birthday surprise—it was a reflection of the strong respect and appreciation that students have for their teachers, and of the positive environment fostered within the university’s medical college.

This celebration follows another recent honour for Dr. Eigbedion. Earlier in the month, on May 9, he was hosted at a dinner party organized by the National President of the University Secondary School Ekpoma Old Students Association (USSEOSA), Engr. Ayemere Ogudo, in recognition of his birthday two days earlier. During the event, Dr. Eigbedion was also presented with the Distinguished Medical Practitioner award.

The dinner, held in a relaxed and festive setting, was attended by members of the USSEOSA Home Branch, including Miss Geraldine Imokhai, Mrs. Cordelia Aigbovboile, and Engr. Harrison Aboiralor. Comrade Christopher Aikohi conveyed greetings on behalf of both Ogudo—who is currently in North America—and the school’s principal, Mrs. Ndudi Ajuwa.

Speaking at the event, guests praised Dr. Eigbedion for his dedication to medicine and education. In his closing remarks, he expressed deep thanks to God and appreciation to Engr. Ogudo for his generosity and continued support.

Together, these moments of recognition highlight Dr. Eigbedion’s impact as both a teacher and a mentor—and the lasting connections he has built within the academic and alumni communities.
