A former Permanent Secretary in Lagos State, Chief Babatunde Fanimokun, has charged public workers and youths on integrity.
Fanimokun, who is a Development Economist, gave the charge at the inaugural edition of the Yaba College of Technology Annual Distinguished Service Lecture, held at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH).
The Annual Distinguished Service Lecture had the theme: ”Excellence, Integrity, Resourcefulness & Selflessness: The Hallmark Of Lagos State Public Service As A Case Study In Progress, Unity and Prosperity 1967-2025”.
He said public service entails public trust, hence, workers should exhibit selfless service and not engage in corrupt practices.
The guest lecturer commended the past governors of Lagos State – Mobolaji Johnson, Lateef Jakande and Bola Tinubu, for their selfless leadership pattern, which made the state stood out among other states in the country.
According to him, Lagos State is the story of what Nigeria can do with itself.
“The DNA of Lagos include integrity. We need incorruptible leaders like Jakande. Lagos has very enterprising people under the culture of unity in diversity,” he said.
In his welcome address, Dr Ibraheem Abdul, the Rector, YABATECH, said the lecture marked the beginning of the intention to institutionalise a platform for celebrating leadership excellence.
Abdul said it intended to examine public service values, and foster a culture of integrity and selfless service, both within the academic community and across the nation at large.
“Let this event ignite in all of us a renewed commitment to service – not just to our professional roles, but to the greater good of our communities and our nation.
“Let us all strive to embody the virtues celebrated today and contribute to a brighter future for Lagos State and Nigeria,” he said.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Funso Afolabi, the Chairman, Governing Council, YABATECH, Lagos, said the lecture served not only for intellectual enrichment, but also as a moment to celebrate excellence within the organisation.
