The Afara Initiative, one of the pioneers in youth leadership development and career acceleration in Africa, has received funding from two US-Based Institutional Foundations.

This milestone investment reflects global confidence in Afara’s ability to provide the next generation of African leaders with the skills, networks, and opportunities to drive economic transformation for themselves and their communities. At a time when many young Nigerians face barriers to career advancement, this funding will expand access to world-class leadership and career development programs, empowering them to compete on a global stage.

“Securing this six-figure grant is a testament to the remarkable work Afara has accomplished over the
years in bridging the gap between African talent and the global economy,” stated Afara’s Founder, Lara Rabiu.

“Thanks to the backing of respected institutions, we will enhance our programs, broaden our reach, and strengthen our influence for countless young leaders throughout Nigeria and beyond.”

To date, Afara has transformed the leadership and professional journey of over 730 young leaders, with alumni working at global companies such as Google, Goldman Sachs, Meta, CBRE, Unilever, Bank
of America, Microsoft and domestic enterprises such as Kingmakers, ARM, Elektron, among others.

Within the next five years, the organisation expects to reach over 55,000 students in Africa, offering world-class career and leadership accelerator programs.

Thanks to its new partners, Afara can now deepen the impact of its flagship program, the Bridge Fellowship, in new communities across Nigeria. This support also improves its brand visibility and expands B2B partnerships to 10 additional universities, driving the exponential growth of the Pathway Career Accelerators to support 5,000–7,000 young university students in 2025.

The catalytic funding announcement came ahead of the Skoll World Forum 2025 (April 1-4), where Afara engaged with leading global funders, policymakers, and social impact leaders to forge strategic partnerships and expand its efforts to end youth poverty and build a globally competitive next generation of leaders.

At the forum, Afara presented its vision for scalable youth leadership and employment solutions across Africa, inviting partners to join forces in tackling this audacious challenge and driving systemic
change.
