Ogbonnia matriarch goes home April 23

The Matriarch of the Ogbonnia family of Ugbo Okpala in Awgu local government area of Enugu State Nigeria, Deaconess Mrs. Esther Oligwe Ogbonnia (Nee Uzoagbala), will on Wednesday April 23, 2025 be given final transition rite in her country home, Ugbo.

Mrs Ogbonnia at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Ituku-Ozalla Enugu, succumbed to the eternal glory and triumphantly joined the Saints on November 2, 2024 at the age of 88 years.

She is the Matriarch of the immediate past Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Rt Hon. Dr Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia whose siblings include critic and the former Presidential aspirant in the All progressives Congress (APC), Dr. SKC Ogbonnia.

Deaconess Ogbonnia was further blessed with the fruits of womb that include Ozo Cliff Ogbonnia, Chief Mrs Francisca Okafor, Miss Eyiuche Ogbonnia, Ozo Uzoagbala Olisa Ogbonnia; and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Chief Ilogebe Okpala Ogbonnia (Ikeoha Ugbo); and son, late Ozo Obi-Jackson Ogbonnia.

According to the programme for the rites of passage released by her family and authored by Dr. Alex Ogbonnia (Ozowalu), there will be a Christian Wake & Night of Tributes @ Ogbonnia Villa, Ugbo on April 22 from 5pm.

On April 23, 2025, her body will by 8am leave UNTH Ituku-Ozalla for a brief stopover at her father’s Uzoagbala family compound, Ogwuagbom-Obeagu, a nearby community in Awgu local government council area.

By 9.30 am, her body will arrive Ogbonnia Villa, Ugbo Okpala for commendation prayers; 10.30 am Church Service by the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Ugbo Okpala will take place at Ugbo Primary School Play Ground, Ugbo Okpala and by 12 noon her Interment will take place at the Ogbonnia Villa.

Reception follows immediately after the burial at the Primary School Play Ground.
