A socio-political group, the Nigeria People’s Project (PPP), has highlighted the urgent need for collective engagement and constructive dialogue across all sectors of society to bolster President Bola Tinubu’s administration in navigating the intricate challenges currently facing the nation.

The group, in a statement on Monday and made available to Vanguard by its chairman, Lateef Gbenga Ganiyu, and secretary, James Jibrin, emphasised the importance of unity and collaboration in fostering national resilience.

The statement highlighted the historical complexities of Nigeria’s ethnic dynamics and power struggles, which have often shaped public perceptions of governance capabilities.

The statement read: “Traditionally, there has been a prevailing narrative that northern leaders possess an inherent advantage in governance.’

“However, the trust once bestowed upon former President Muhammadu Buhari has prompted a critical reassessment of leadership effectiveness in the north, particularly as public expectations for governance continue to evolve.’’

“Currently, emerging political tensions signal a potential shift in power dynamics, with certain factions agitating against President Tinubu’s leadership. This maneuvering suggests a challenging political landscape ahead, where the stability and unity of the nation may be put to the test.”

Reflecting on the Buhari administration, the PPP noted that Nigeria grappled with serious challenges, including escalating insecurity, economic stagnation, and rising poverty levels, adding that, these enduring issues have left an indelible mark on the populace, raising questions about the effectiveness of past leadership and policy decisions.

“In contrast, President Tinubu’s administration has initiated a series of policies aimed at addressing these critical issues head-on. His governance approach is characterised by a commitment to equitable power distribution among Nigeria’s diverse regions, fostering a sense of inclusivity and representation. This strategy is evident in his appointments, which promote fair representation of the country’s various ethnic groups.”

“The performance of service chiefs under Tinubu, particularly the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has garnered commendation for its effectiveness. The CDS has exhibited exceptional leadership and military acumen, achieving significant successes in states such as Zamfara, Kaduna, Abuja, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, Sokoto, and Taraba. Citizens in these regions have acknowledged improvements in security and stability, which are vital for fostering economic growth and social cohesion.”

“In stark contrast, Buhari’s tenure was often criticised for appointments that favoured one region disproportionately, leading to widespread dissatisfaction and a sense of marginalisation among other groups. This inequity hindered national progress and left many feeling disenfranchised.”

As Nigeria continues to navigate its path under President Tinubu, the PPP emphasised the necessity for ongoing dialogue and collaboration across all societal sectors.

“The potential for growth and transformation in Nigeria remains vast, but it requires a united effort to overcome the legacies of the past and establish a more prosperous and equitable future for all citizens.”

“While the road ahead is laden with challenges, there is hope that inclusive leadership and a steadfast commitment to addressing the needs of all Nigerians can enable the nation to navigate its complexities and emerge stronger than ever,” the group said.
