There are many situations where migrants become an economic burden and a nuisance. Some immigrants place a financial strain on the government and create social disturbances in society, as some are the result of jailbreaks and other crimes that remain unidentified. We cannot ignore the social nuisance that some of these individuals pose to society. They are often manipulated by organized crime syndicates, drug cartels, and human traffickers.
Even Heaven has criteria for entry, and we cannot base our immigration policy on morality, sentiment, or pity. Otherwise, America could become a dumping ground for all types of criminals. A well-structured and clearly defined immigration policy should aim to attract migrants who can contribute to the socio-economic development of the nation.
This should be the paradigm shift in immigration policy under President Trump’s administration. No nation should allow a porous immigration system that turns the country into a dumping ground for criminals. Therefore, law and order must be enforced. A good, well-coordinated immigration policy, including proper scrutiny of migrants, would significantly enhance internal security.
The president is not saying, “Don’t come to America,” but rather that immigrants should have a legal immigration record that can be accessed in case of emergencies requiring safety measures for others. Therefore, the only way to maintain proper oversight is to come legally, remain legal, and abide by the laws of the land.
I strongly believe that the government will be able to prove the legitimacy of the executive order to stop illegal migration in court. Furthermore, the president is not targeting any individual, particular group of people, or race, as that would have been problematic under the 14th Amendment. Additionally, the 14th Amendment does not encourage illegality.
Equal protection does not permit violations of the Constitution, the Immigration Act, or any laws of the land. No nation should allow porous border crossings by unidentifiable individuals whose crimes cannot be traced. The duty of any great leader is to protect the interests of all citizens from threats, intimidation, and illegal activities that jeopardize their safety. Any measure taken to deter illegalities should not be misconstrued as lacking compassion; rather, we must embrace a merit-based migration system grounded in the legal principles of the land.
