Germany has launched a new online visa application portal this January, aiming to streamline the entry process for international visitors.
The move is designed to simplify the procedure for individuals from countries that do not have a visa waiver agreement with Germany, making it easier to apply for entry permits.
Previously, applicants had to complete extensive paper forms and send them to a German embassy or consulate, which could be located far away, sometimes hundreds of kilometers from their location.
Starting this January, the application process has been simplified into three clear steps:
Germany Visa application process
Online Application
Applicants begin by filling out an online form tailored to their specific visa type through the Consular Services Portal. They will also need to upload supporting documents, such as scanned copies of their passports and proof of qualifications.
Preliminary Review
The German consular mission will conduct an initial review of the application. If additional information is required, applicants will be notified through the portal.
In-Person Appointment
Applicants will be asked to schedule an appointment at the nearest German mission. During this appointment, their identity will be verified, original documents will be reviewed, and biometric data such as photos and fingerprints will be collected.
Applicants can track the progress of their visa application through the portal and use the Visa Navigator tool to identify the appropriate visa type for their travel needs.
