The Unemployed Youth Association of Nigeria (UYAN), South-South office, has called on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to take immediate action in fulfilling its promises to the Niger Delta region.

Comrade Gbenga Fajoye, in a statement ,emphasized the need for the NDDC to implement its Youth Internship Scheme, which aimed at providing skill acquisition to young unemployed youths .

He stated that “the scheme, which promises to train and empower 10,000 youths across the Niger Delta region, has been touted as a key initiative in addressing the region’s socio-economic challenges. However, its implementation has been delayed, leaving many youths in the region feeling frustrated and marginalized.”

Fajoye urged the NDDC Managing Director, to take necessary measures to create more jobs, stimulate the economy of the Niger Delta, and carry the youths along in the development process. He noted that the Niger Delta region has suffered long enough from marginalization and underdevelopment, and it is imperative for the NDDC to perform its statutory role.

“The NDDC has launched several initiatives aimed at empowering youths in the region, including the Youth Internship Scheme, which provides a monthly stipend of N50,000 to beneficiaries. However, the commission’s efforts have been hindered by various challenges, including funding constraints and bureaucratic delays.”

“As the NDDC continues to grapple with these challenges, the Unemployed Youth Association of Nigeria (UYAN) has urged the commission to remain committed to its mandate and work towards creating a brighter future for the youths of the Niger Delta region.”
