By Chris Onuoha

Some residents of Kurudu axis in the Abuja Municipal Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory FCT have cried out to the Honourable Minister of FCT, Barr. Nyeso Wike to come to their aid and intervene in a land grabbing saga by an estate developer in Abuja.

The residents, under the aegies of Concerned FCT Indigenes Initiative, Kurudu axis chapter, cried out over the land grabbing and illegal demolition of their buildings and perimeter fences in the Kurudu area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja allegedly carried by an Abuja based property developer.

According to the spokesperson of the group, Comrade Matthew Shekwo, he said that the affected plots of lands were allocated to some indigenes by the FCT authority after relocating them from Nyanya. He also noted that the layout is called “Kurudu Relocation Layout” and was adopted by the FCDA, adding that the layout plots are mostly about 1000sqm.

Shekwo in his appeal to FCT Minister, mentioned that similar incident has happened in the Jikwoyi axis, Kpeyegi axis, and other parts of Kurudu, while noting that the same issue is trying to play out at Kurudu relocation layout.

He further added that the harassment and illegal demolitions of residents buildings and shops was carried on Monday January 27th, by some people under the guard of armed securities, prompting fears, anxieties and panic among traders at Kurudu Timber Shed Market.

Shekwo further noted that the group will be leading a protest to the FCT Minister and other relevant offices in the country if no urgent steps are taking to stop the developer from the demolitions and to render them homeless.
