ABUJA: The Federal Capital Territory Administration FCTA has said it will not fold its arms and allow criminals operate freely in the nation’s capital, urging residents to assist with useful information whenever they notice suspicious activities in their areas.
FCT Minister, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike had recently promised a smooth yuletide season for residents and visitors, specifically saying the issue of ‘One Chance’ syndicates would be tackled.
Operators of ‘One Chance’ often use taxis to commit crimes, specifically robbing, maiming and sometimes killing their victims.
Buttressing the position of the minister, Director, Security Services in the FCT Administration, Adamu Gwary said the minister has empowered security agencies to fish out criminal elements.
Recalling how some squatters along the railway corridors had sometime ago vandalized the Kukwuaba rail facility, Gwary stressed the importance of clearance operations to prevent a reoccurrence.
He said those illegal settlers are not profiled and can commit crimes and melt into neighbouring communities undetected, thereby making life difficult for law abiding citizens.
“Government will not allow that. Also, security issues like ‘one chance’ is being taken care of and in this Yuletide, the security agencies are prepared to confront any situation. The measures on ground will take care of the menace of criminals who disguise as scavengers as well as street hawkers”, he stated.
On internal security in the workplace, he said the FCT Administration has finalized plans to enforce the ban on trading in FCTA offices next year.
