In a world often overshadowed by challenges and uncertainties, the essence of thanksgiving stands as a beacon of hope. This profound truth was vividly illustrated on December 23, 2024, at the Arcade Ground, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, where the 10th Omi Tuntun 2024 Mega Praise and End-of-the-Year Thanksgiving service unfolded. 

Hosted by Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, the event transcended mere celebration; it became a powerful reminder that gratitude can flourish even in the most difficult of times.

As attendees began to gather, a palpable sense of anticipation filled the air. The theme for this year’s gathering, “Extravagant Praise,” set the stage for a day dedicated to honouring the goodness of God, despite the trials faced by the community. 

The atmosphere was electric, with people from all walks of life coming together to express their gratitude. The event served as a testament to the strength of community and the power of faith.

Governor Makinde opened the service with a heartfelt reading from 1 Chronicles 29:10-13, grounding the event in biblical wisdom and emphasising the importance of recognising God’s sovereignty. His voice resonated through the crowd, inviting everyone to engage in a moment of collective reflection and gratitude. The reading not only set a spiritual tone but also encouraged attendees to ponder their own blessings and the strength they found in faith.

Among the diverse crowd were esteemed men of God, community leaders, and government officials. Notably, Deputy Governor Barr. Bayo Lawal, a Muslim, stood alongside his Christian counterparts, symbolising the spirit of unity that characterised the gathering. This interfaith representation showcased a shared commitment to gratitude, reinforcing the idea that thanksgiving transcends religious boundaries and is a universal value that can unite people in times of difficulty.

As the event progressed, Prophet P.F. Owa of the Christ Revival Miracle Church took the stage, delivering an exhortation that resonated deeply with the audience. With passion and fervor, he encouraged attendees to maintain faith during hardships, reminding them that praise has the power to transform despair into hope. “Even in your darkest moments, remember to lift your voice in gratitude,” he urged, igniting a spark of inspiration within the crowd. His message served as a reminder that, while life may present obstacles, faith and gratitude can illuminate the path forward.

When Governor Makinde addressed the gathering, his sincerity was palpable. He spoke candidly about the challenges that had recently tested the state, recalling unfortunate incidents that had occurred just weeks before the Thanksgiving service. Yet, rather than dwelling on adversity, he chose to focus on the strength and resilience of the people of Oyo State. 

“Despite the challenges we’ve faced, Oyo State will continue to thrive,” he declared, his words resonating with the audience. Many nodded in agreement, reflecting on their shared experiences of overcoming hardship and finding strength in community.

A particularly poignant moment came when the governor expressed his unwavering commitment to the younger generation. “I will not position myself to hinder the future leaders of this nation,” he asserted, a statement that drew applause and cheers from the crowd. 

His dedication to ensuring that opportunities remained open for youths was a powerful reminder of leadership grounded in service and responsibility. This commitment resonated deeply, inspiring many to envision a brighter future for the state.

As he shared personal anecdotes from his political journey, the governor captivated the audience with stories of divine guidance and prophetic messages that had influenced his decisions. 

He recounted how insights from Prophet Owa had illuminated his path, particularly during pivotal moments such as his election in 2019. This connection between faith and leadership illustrated how divine guidance can shape one’s journey, emphasising that even in the political arena, there is room for grace and purpose.

The service also featured uplifting performances from renowned gospel artists, whose voices soared and filled the air with joyous melodies. As the music began, the crowd erupted in praise, clapping and dancing, embodying the spirit of “Extravagant Praise.” The artists’ performances transformed the atmosphere into a celebration of resilience and joy, serving as a reminder that even amidst difficulties, there is always a reason to rejoice.

As the event progressed, the energy in the Arcade Ground was infectious. Attendees joined together in song and dance, lifting their voices in unison, creating a symphony of gratitude that echoed through the venue. 

This communal expression of faith and appreciation was a powerful testament to the strength found in unity. In those moments, the worries and challenges of the past seemed to fade away, replaced by a collective spirit of joy and hope.

As the service drew to a close, it was evident that the gathering had achieved its purpose: to uplift spirits, foster unity, and reinforce the significance of thanksgiving, even in challenging times. 

The event served as a powerful reminder that praises can indeed prevail over hard times, encouraging the people of Oyo State to remain resilient and hopeful in the face of adversity.

In the end, Governor Makinde’s leadership shone brightly throughout the gathering, exemplifying a commitment to both spiritual and civic responsibility.
