The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its disappointment over the repeated postponement of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

The BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, voiced the board’s displeasure during his opening remarks at an emergency meeting held at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

The NWC had recently announced a third consecutive postponement of the NEC meeting, the latest being one originally scheduled for November 28, 2024.

Wabara criticized the Amb. Umar Damagum-led NWC, stating that the repeated delays erode party members’ trust and confidence.

He said: “I welcome you all to this emergency meeting of the Board of Trustees. It is an honor to address this esteemed gathering, whose commitment to our party’s values and principles remains unwavering.

“Today, we convene under challenging self-inflicted circumstances, compelled by our collective concern for the current state of our great party.

“As custodians of the PDP’s conscience and legacy, it is our responsibility to uphold the integrity of this institution and ensure that it continues to serve as a beacon of hope for our democracy and good governance.

“It is with a deep sense of disappointment that I must express the Board’s dismay at the continued shifting by the National Working Committee (NWC) in convening a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

“This delay not only undermines the trust and confidence of our members but also weakens the unity and democratic processes that are the foundation of our party.”

Wabara emphasized the importance of adhering to commitments and urged the NWC to convene the NEC meeting as scheduled next February.

Wabara also addressed the economic challenges facing Nigerians under the current administration. He criticized the Tinubu-led government for its harsh economic policies and the skyrocketing cost of living, stating:

“The harsh economic policies of the Tinubu Administration have exacerbated the suffering of Nigerians. The poorly implemented economic reforms have pushed millions into deeper poverty. Our party must rise to this occasion by offering credible alternatives and amplifying the voices of the suffering masses.”

On internal party issues, Wabara called for unity among PDP governors and emphasized the need to prioritize dialogue and collaboration. He said:

“The strength of our party lies in our collective resolve, not in individual pursuits. We cannot afford to let personal ambitions or differences overshadow our shared vision for a better Nigeria. Our governors are the bedrock of the PDP’s successes across states, and their synergy is vital for our collective progress.”

The BoT reaffirmed its commitment to seeking peace and unity within the party, with plans to renew peace efforts in the new year. This includes engaging with former Governor Nyesom Wike to foster lasting reconciliation.

As the festive season approaches, Wabara extended warm Christmas wishes, saying:

“This is a time of hope, reflection, and renewal. Let us use this season to rekindle the values of love, unity, and sacrifice that Christmas embodies. May the joy of this season inspire us to work harder for a better Nigeria and a stronger PDP.”

He concluded by assuring members of the BoT’s resolve to strengthen the party, stating:

“Together, we can and will overcome these challenges. The BoT remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the PDP emerges stronger and more united.”
