Technology expert and Managing Director of Huawei Nigeria Enterprise Business Group, Terrens Wu, has posited that building an AI-native cloud infrastructure is key to AI development.
He noted that the demand for AI computing power may exceed the demand for general computing power by the end of 2024.

He said, “As we all know, from the first growth curve of the informatization age, human society has achieved ubiquitous interconnection, connecting a large number of users and causing a traffic explosion. This has accelerated the demand for digital transformation in human society and spawned a second growth curve with 5G and cloud as the main engines. Currently, the third growth curve driving the intelligent world is poised to emerge, ushering in a new era of comprehensive intelligence in human society. Despite the many challenges on the road to entering the intelligent world, humankind has never stopped exploring and advancing. From HUAWEI CLOUD, we can see that customers’ demand for AI computing power is increasing rapidly. By the end of this year, we expect that the demand for AI computing power may exceed the demand for general computing power. Building an elastic and efficient multi-calculation infrastructure with optimal AI computing power is the key to AI development. That is, building an AI-native cloud infrastructure is the key.”
He added that Huawei has concluded plans to launch it’s Nigeria’s first local cloud on December 10, 2024.
According to him, “In the intelligent era, model parameters have grown from 10 billion to 100 billion or trillion. To meet the explosive growth of AI computing power and meet the requirements of high reliability and efficiency, we launched the brand-new AI-native cloud infrastructure CloudMatrix.
Creatively interconnects CPUs, NPUs, DPUs, storage, and memory resources to provide customers with massive AI computing power.
“We offer more than 240 cloud services and solutions. For customers to get started more easily, we have built five development pipelines, from hardware development to software development, from data governance to AI model development, and digital content production. By providing technology as a service, we innovate for you to innovate.
“Our Cloud has brought AI to more than 1,000 real-world use cases. As we explore together with our customers, we have accumulated extensive industry know-how and built more than 20 industry models with our partners and customers. “We’re introducing AI into weather forecasting. We’ve developed an AI weather model, trained on a massive data set of global weather spanning the past 40 years. With an AI weather model, using a single server and just 10 seconds, we can predict the global typhoon path for the next 10 days, and even more accurately. This is a real game-changer.
“It predicted its path accurately in every time segment, ranking No. 1 among the 3 prediction systems in terms of error. This technology is having a real-world impact.
“Thanks to cutting-edge technologies like AI, cloud, and 5G, we successfully partnered with Canyon Coal in Phalanndwa colliery. This enables us to leverage video surveillance and analysis to identify vehicle information, including license plates, so as to prevent illegal intrusions and avoid vehicle collisions and potential injuries caused by visual blind spots. Additionally, through AI, we can automatically detect and sort ore, identify anomalies such as conveyor belt breaks, and alert for maintenance, thereby increasing ore production by 25%. By transitioning to automated and remote operations, we have significantly reduced worker exposure to dangerous environments, with machines now handling hazardous tasks, greatly improving safety and efficiency.
On the financial institution side, he said “financial services are becoming everywhere, driving the financial institutions to build platforms and ecosystems to allow the creation of new business and service models. AI and data have become core driving forces that enable financial business innovation.
