The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Kebbi State university of Science and Technology (KESUSTA) branch, has appealed to the governor of Kebbi state, Dr Nasir Idris to implement the consequential minimum wage for lecturers and other staff of the university.
Chairman of the union, Dr Abubakar Birnin Yauri, in a statement, said that governor Idris had in October 2024, approved the immediate implementation of new minimum wage within 72hrs to all categories of workers in the state, but the staff of the university are yet to enjoy it two months after.
“We are appealing to him to include us in the implementation of consequential minimum wage for our members to benefit,” he said.
Aside the minimum wage, he reminded the state government of agreed payment of academic earned allowances, which are also yet to be paid from 2014 to date, and 2022 promotion also waiting in the wings.
The Union, however, appreciate the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Dan Shehu, for his efforts in meeting some demands of the union, and the governor for the upward review of cash allocation, constituting university governing board and the approval of N119 million for the maiden convocation of the university, among other things.
He further urged the state government to implement the 2024 consequential minimum wage to all members of union to avert industrial action.
