…”You’re Only Twisting Harmless Statement” – Adeleke’s Spokesperson

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ajibola Basiru, and Governor Ademola Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, have clashed over an alleged violent statement attributed to the Governor’s Chief of Staff, Kazeem Akinleye.

Akinleye, during an event in Ede, had urged indigenes of the town to vote massively for Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid in 2026, stating that those unwilling to vote for him should leave the town.

Basiru, speaking with newsmen in Osogbo on Sunday, condemned the comment, describing it as an act of inciting violence against opposition members. He asserted that everyone should be allowed to exercise their rights without intimidation. He called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to urgently summon Akinleye for questioning regarding the statement.

“The primary duty of any responsible government is to safeguard the lives and property of its citizens, not instill fear or subject them to intimidation. Osun people will have their say in 2026 and make it abundantly clear that they can distinguish between sincerity and deception,” Senator Basiru affirmed.

In response, Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, accused Basiru of deliberately twisting the Chief of Staff’s harmless statement.

“At no time did the Governor or the Chief of Staff threaten violence, as there is no reason to do so given the incredible level of support and goodwill the current administration enjoys in Osun State,” Rasheed said. “Governor Adeleke is a man of peace who did not raise a finger when he was electorally robbed in 2018, and the Chief of Staff is a well-known, peace-loving political strategist. The APC Secretary is only misinterpreting phrases and putting a criminal spin on a normal call for Osun people to reward good work with a new mandate in 2026 and protect their votes from electoral bandits of any color.”
