The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Sokoto State chapter, has presented a template for the consequential adjustment of the newly approved N70,000 national minimum wage, awaiting implementation by the state government.
The template, presented by the NLC executives under the leadership of Abdullahi Aliyu (Jungle), follows an agreement reached in a meeting on Monday between NLC representatives and Sokoto state government officials regarding the national minimum wage.
According to the NLC state secretary, Comrade Hamisu Husaini Yanduna, the Sokoto state government requested that the NLC present the template for the consequential adjustment to pave the way for the wage’s implementation. “The NLC has presented the minimum wage template, as approved by the federal government, to the State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, at about 11 p.m. yesterday, as he requested after our meeting,” Yanduna said.
In his remarks, Deputy Governor Alhaji Idris Gobir noted that the template would help facilitate the harmonization process between the NLC and the state government for the implementation of the new wage. “The Sokoto state government is committed to the implementation of the new minimum wage for its workforce,” he assured.
Earlier, the NLC state chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu (Jungle), urged civil servants to remain patient, stating that arrangements were already underway for the immediate implementation of the new wage. He reassured workers that the NLC had already submitted the proposed adjustment table to the relevant government officials. “What remains now is for the state government to commence the implementation of the minimum wage, as the proposed table has already been made available to the government since Monday around 11 p.m.,” he added.
