The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has vehemently denounced allegations made by Charles Udeogaranya, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant, against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing them as hate speech, infantile, and islamophobic.
Udeogaranya had accused President Tinubu of violating the Nigerian constitution by attending the Arab-Islamic Summit in Saudi Arabia, labeling the action as impeachable.
MURIC’s Founder and Executive Director, Prof Ishaq Akintola expressed shock at Udeogaranya’s “shortsightedness” and “decision to hobnob with sentimentalities,” stating that his allegations are driven by anti-Muslim emotions. The organization emphasized that President Tinubu’s attendance at the summit, alongside over 50 heads of states from non-Arab and non-Islamic countries, aimed to find solutions to the raging war.
MURIC disputed Udeogaranya’s claim that Nigeria is a secular state, correcting him that Nigeria is a multi-religious state, recognizing and allowing various religions to flourish. Additionally, the organization challenged Udeogaranya’s assertion that most Nigerians are Christians and that the country firmly supports Israel in international matters, labeling it as “false, reckless, baseless, and unfounded.”
The organization urged Udeogaranya to substantiate his claims, citing instances of Nigeria’s support for Israel. MURIC also dismissed Udeogaranya’s call for impeachment as “meaningless, null, void, and of no consequence.”
President Tinubu’s speech at the summit revealed his commitment to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, advocating for an immediate ceasefire, peaceful resolution, and revival of the two-state solution. MURIC praised President Tinubu’s efforts, stating that he “deserves commendation, not criticism.”
