In a spirited display of unity and purpose, Zone 6 of Rotary International, District 9111, organised a community walk tagged: “End Polio Now” recently in Festac Town. The event commenced at the FHA field and saw the participation of Rotarians and friends wearing T-shirts and caps emblazoned with polio awareness messages.

Te president of the Rotary Club of Amuwo, Rtn. Bernard Umelo, highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “This walk is the result of a collaborative effort by nine clubs in Zone 6 of District 9111. We are here to celebrate and support the global mission to eradicate polio, not only in our community but worldwide.”

Throughout the walk, participants engaged with local residents, stressing the importance of oral polio vaccinations for children. “Our goal is to keep polio at zero,” added Rtn. Betty Elegba, the president of the Rotary Club of Lagos West. “Rotary has always been at the forefront of this battle, and it’s crucial that we continue to educate our communities on the need for vaccination and maintaining a clean environment to prevent diseases.”

The event also included opportunities for children to receive oral polio vaccinations, with health workers readily available to assist. Rotarians took it upon themselves to spread awareness, further reinforcing the message of the importance of vaccination.

Participating clubs included the Rotary Club of Amuwo, Greenfield, Lagos West, Festac Metro, Satellite, Lagos Festac Metropolitan, Okota Golden, Canal Estate, and Festac, all joining together in this noble cause.
