In response to a tragic building collapse in Jegede Olunloyo, Ona Ara Local Government Area, Ibadan, which claimed 13 lives and left seven others injured on Thursday, the Oyo State Government has announced a comprehensive initiative to conduct integrity tests on nearby structures.

This effort seeks to ensure the safety and stability of buildings across the area, addressing concerns about construction standards and aiming to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Governor Seyi Makinde extended his condolences to the victims’ families, describing the incident as a preventable tragedy and offering prayers for the bereaved. He assured the public that the government is committed to thoroughly investigating the collapse to mitigate future risks.

The governor revealed that a state delegation, led by the Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Williams Akin-Funmilayo, will be responsible for conducting the structural integrity assessments on buildings in the affected area.
