The outgone Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, Edo State, Engr. Ethan Uzamere has dismissed insinuations from some quarters that his boss Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki has not worked on federal roads.
Felding questions from journalists in Benin City while rendering account of stewardship shortly before leaving office, Engr. Uzamere said that Mr. Obaseki had carried out some works on federal roads to alleviate the plight of citizens in the state who use them, despite the funds allocated to the state not being commensurate with those of its sister states.
“In terms of roads, like you asked me, if you really live in Edo State, prior to His Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki’s arrival, it would be very unfair not to give him accolades for road construction, where he focused especially on internal connectivity.
“Yes, there were some things that were hyped up by informal media groups of him saying, he doesn’t work on federal government roads, which is very false. We did a lot of work on Benin – Lagos Road. We’re still working on Benin – Abraka Road as we are speaking which will be completed soon etc.”
Reacting to a question regarding his next move after a meritorious eight years in public service, Engr. Ethan said: “I cannot accept that now. I have just finished an election.
I also want to take a break and do a lot of reevaluation on the last few years and see how to move forward. I don’t think it is just about jumping to positions without even doing a self appraisal on my previous appointments.
On assessment of his stewardship in the Ministry of Roads and Bridges, Engr. Uzamere gave kudos to Mr. Obaseki for his foresight and adherence to quality service delivery.
