Ogun LG poll, a charade – PDP chieftain

…Urges Nigerians to reject APC’s recklessness in 2027

By James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Chief Toyin Amuzu, has described Saturday’s local government election in the state as a “complete charade” and an “arbitrary use of power.”

Amuzu, reacting to reports of violence, intimidation, and manipulation during the council election—especially in Abeokuta South Local Government—called on Nigerians to reject the APC’s recklessness and dictatorial tendencies in the 2027 elections. He stated that it is evident the APC can never win any free and fair election in the country.

Amuzu, who was the PDP’s House of Representatives candidate in the 2023 elections, condemned the APC’s actions during the election, saying they were a clear indication of the party’s disregard for democratic principles and the well-being of Nigerians.

He lamented, “It is disheartening that despite the APC’s usual massive rigging and manipulations, they still resorted to violence and chaos, terrorizing innocent citizens and the opposition.”

Amuzu further emphasized that the PDP, with its experience and people-oriented policies, is better equipped to serve the interests of Nigerians, contrasting this with the hardship and anti-people policies of the ruling party.

He also referenced the PDP’s previous warnings about the APC’s use of military personnel to disrupt the electoral process, citing the incident where the minority leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Lukemon Adeleye, was taken away in a ‘gestapo manner.’

“Yesterday’s events have further exposed that the APC is deeply unpopular among the people,” Amuzu said. “Despite their attempts to manipulate the process, the APC still lost woefully, showing that the people have rejected them, which is why they resorted to violence and intimidation.”

As the 2027 elections approach, Amuzu urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and reject the APC’s attempts to perpetuate their recklessness. He stressed that the PDP is committed to providing a better alternative, with policies and programs that prioritize the needs of the people. It is clear, he said, that the APC cannot win any election in a free and fair contest.
