Kaduna -Members of the Kano State House of Assembly have advised Auditors in the State to discharge their duties in line with global practices because of the critical roles they play in detecting and deterring fraud in organizations.

Chairman Public Account Committee Kano State House of Assembly, Hon.Tukur Muhammad, spoke during a 2 Day Workshop organized by the office of the Auditor General for Local Government under the leadership of Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani Abdullahi.

“It takes appointing people with proven records of competence to improve the quality of audit and financial reporting in the country,” he said.

According to him,it’s imperative to build a better working condition through information sharing, adding that the reality was that, “if we want to build a better working world with information available to financial institutions ,then those who sit at the top of governance, especially the audit committee members, need to be able to access information in real-time and efficiency manner.”

He said that the professionalism shown by the office of the Auditor General and the Commitment of Public Account Committee (PAC) members as well as the Leadership of the House made the activities successful “as all our records are now up to date’ .

The Auditor – General of Kano state, Alhaji Ahmad Tijjani Abdullahi, said at the occasion that the gathering was aimed at re-awakening Local Government Auditors on the present-day challenge in Public Finance Management and was also intended to sharpen the skills of the Auditors.

The Deputy Chairman of PAC, Hon. Salisu Ibrahim, said that “this type of gathering is Key to career efficiency and excellence in the working of the Auditors”.

One of the former Local Government Auditor General, Alhaji Muhd Ibrahim Farouk, expressed satisfaction that the department is now worthy of pride.

Besides Information sharing, the Workshop also featured four major paper presentations which included Accounting Records and Report as Tools for Accountability and Transparency by Muhammad Yaro as well as General Overview on Budget and Chart of Account Fundamentals by Garba Bello Ibrahim

Ahmed Garba Auwal also presented a paper titled Overview of IPSAS for effective Migration, the Director Final Account in the office of the Kano State Accountant General Rabiu Abdullahi, similarly presented a paper on Cash Versus Accrual Accounting Basis

understanding. The whole presentations were chaired by the former Auditor General (Alhaji Ali Ben Musa).

Dignitaries at the event were SSA to Kano State Governor on Local Government, Directors from Audit, and the Ministry for Local Government,among others.
