A one-time Governorship candidate in Edo and the immediate past President of the World Medical Association, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, has urged political parties and their governorship candidates in today’s Edo State election to ensure the exercise remains peaceful, free, fair, and credible.
Enabulele also called on the law enforcement agencies and the Independence National Electoral Commission, INEC.
He further urged the people to secure their collective future and prosperity by rejecting vote buying and selfish inducements to undermine their conscience, free will, and informed choice.
While noting the significance of elections in the determination of individuals to lead the people, Enabulele called on all players, including the political parties, to work to ensure a peaceful and violence-free election.
Underscoring the need for politics without bitterness and violence, Enabulele particularly charged the political parties and their agents to do nothing to promote violence or vote buying but rather to work to promote mutual respect, understanding, and peaceful engagement during the voting exercise and post-electoral period.
Enabulele similarly called on the law enforcement agencies and the electoral umpire, INEC, to uphold the sanctity of the election by eliminating acts capable of undermining the integrity of the Edo Governorship election.
The President urged the people of Edo State to massively turn up at the various polling units to exercise their democratic right to determine who governs them.
He urged them to reject any effort to undermine their free will or negatively influence their choices and to vote for a people-centred and altruistic individual who can best govern them in line with their expectations and aspirations.
While commending all the candidates who put themselves up for the Governorship election, Dr Enabulele wished them the very best and admonished them to sustain their mature conduct throughout the exercise and to promote the same amongst their supporters.
He reminded them that only one candidate at a time can be elected as the Governor of Edo State and that whoever is elected by the people should be supported to deliver on the people’s mandate.
