THE Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, WOWICAN, Southwest Zone, has called on parents to inculcate the right values in their children in order to have a better society that everyone could be proud of.

The group expressed concern about the current trend where parents are perceived as old-fashioned, while young boys and girls adopt inappropriate fashion styles.

WOWICAN made the appeal at its 10th annual zonal convention, investiture, award presentation, and women’s empowerment held in Lagos at the Apostolic Church of Nigeria, LAWNA Territory, Ketu.

Lamenting that a lot of parents had abandoned their duties for material gains to the detriment of their homes, the Chairperson of the organisation, Most Senior Mother-in-Israel, Prophetess Odunola Raji-Adebesin, who spoke on the theme, ‘Repositioning Women For Growth and Development urged Nigerian women to wake up from their slumber and help salvage society from decay.

In her words: “Dear mothers in Christ, it is mandatory for us to seek God diligently concerning our home, especially our marriage and children. Raising godly children is becoming a thing of the past. Killing, maiming, indecent dressing, drug abuse, hookup, armed robbery, ritual, cultism, kidnapping for ransom, money laundering, extravagant living, watching porn, etc. are the order of the day. There is a need to arise from sleep and take care of our children,”she stated.

“This country is in chaos, the cost of living is skyrocketing, economic hardship is biting seriously, assistance from any angle is not coming, businesses are crunching, companies are folding up, indeed we are in a trying period. With focus, determination, self-discipline, steadfastness and, above all, persistent prayer to God, we will definitely reach the greater height prepared for us by God.”

Also at the event, the National Chairperson of WOWICAN, General Lady Superintendent Ayobami Akinadewo, called on women to be more prayerful, diligent and have unwavering faith.

She urged the APC-led government to show more concern in tackling the myriad of problems in the country. While expressing confidence there will be light at the end of the tunnel, she said, ” We will be the ones who will eat the goods of the land by His grace.”

She pleaded with Nigerians not to waver in faith, adding “God will bring something out of the crisis we found ourselves. At this time, don’t just sit at home and expect somebody to bring something for you. You too go out and do something.

“I have a farm behind my house where I planted yam, okra, and I have a fish pond. Let every one of us do something. When we do something, things will be better. Don’t rely on people to bring everything for you, but you, too, contribute your quota. If every one of us can do that, things would be better.”

Some of the awardees at the four-day event are: Senior Special Apostle, George Ogunleye, Mrs. Olufunke Bisi-Afolabi, ‘Laide Osijo, Mrs Olubusola Odubawo, Special Apostle Pastor, Emmanuel Bamigboye, Executive Chairman of Mushin Local government, Dr. Mrs. Martha Omede and others.

They appreciated the southwest zone WOWICAN for recognising their efforts, while pledging more support to the advancement of the gospel.
