NITDA attains 95% digitisation

…Unveils 5th Service Charter

By Emmanuel Elebeke

In pursuit of excellence in service delivery  and  digitization of all it’s processes,  the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA says it has so far attained 95% digitisation, especially when it comes to use digital literacy and development.

The Director General of the Agency disclosed this yesterday at the unveiling of NITDA 5th Service Charter held at its headquarters  in Abuja.

The public policy document furnishes an aperture that categorically outlines NITDA’s core services, management of customer service standards and mediums of communications with its external customers.

He said as an agency spearheading Nigeria’s digital transformation journey, it has been trying to achieve more in all aspects, especially when it comes to use digital literacy and development through the population of technology in Nigeria.

He said a recent survey conducted recently on the level digitisation revealed that NITDA has already achieved 95% mark.

“The level of digitization, I will say, is above 90% right now. And even from the survey we did based on this service chatter, we are already at 95%.

“And in all aspects we are trying to achieve more, especially when it comes to use digital literacy and development through the population of technology in Nigeria”

Speaking at the unveiling, the Director General of the agency, who was represented by the director infrastructure and solutions department, Oladejola Oni Kashifu Abdullahi, said that the launching of the NITDA’s 5th Service Charter was an attestation of the agency’s unwavering commitment to excellence, transparency and  accountability.

“We are deeply committed to fostering innovation, promoting digital transformation and ensuring the ethical and responsible use of technology in Nigeria. With a firm belief in the  transformative power of technology to drive socio-economic  development, we pledge to uphold  the highest standards of regulatory oversight , stakeholders engagement, and service delivery, striving tirelessly to empower and support the Nigerian IT ecosystem. We are steadfast in our mission to reposition Nigeria as a global leader in the digital age, where technology catalyses  progress and prosperity for all.

“The fifth edition launch is just to show that we are continuously striving to achieve excellence. Like right now we are almost close to 100%,  we are striving to achieve excellence  and that’s why we need to see what are the things we need to incorporate into the new editions to strive to do new things.

“We are trying to see that as a new strength to ensure that Nigeria is a digitally empowered nation. And to do that we have to look for how to ensure that we use technology to achieve digital transformation.

“And this is another way of transforming, keep on improving,  So that’s while we seek another edition of service charter, we try to see ways of improving on what we have.

“In this new edition, I tell us one or two things that are different from the fourth edition. Basically, it is just to ensure that there are some promises that we found that we need to make again based on what I explained earlier.”

In using technology, he said, “we always find the need for change because technology is dynamic, it’s always changing. And even if you look at the way that we have things like emerging technologies, we have over the past two years discovered new things. It is a technology that we need to incorporate in Nigeria.

“So, based on that we have found that we need to actually develop new technologies and have the new service chatter to ensure that we are able to meet that excellence we are trying to strive at. So to ensure that Nigeria is digitally empowered.”

While presenting the new charter, the National Coordinator and CEO of SERVICOM, Nnenna Akadiemeli said the launch of the NITDA 5th Service Charter was affirmation that the agency is continuously working on improving on the delivery of  its processes and systems to service delivery.

According to, NITDA, “NITDA is on the drive to excellence and to do that you need to work in a coordinated manner and the service chatter is a tool that enables that to happen.

“And so the service chatter contains the mandate of needs that are broken down into measurable standards and then for us beyond being standards they are promises of how these services would be delivered to the people of Nigeria.

“And so all of their key services can now be measured and tracked and reported upon. And so, they are holding out of these documents as an engagement between them the service providers and those need of them and they as stakeholders, telling them what they can get from them as an office of governments,” she said.
