In recent years, the southeastern region of Nigeria has emerged quickly into a hotspot for technological innovation and entrepreneurship.
To ensure continuity with this progress, fast-rising conglomerate, Eastside Ventures, in partnership with other industry leaders have concluded plans to launch the Tech City Africa initiative, a project aimed at building Africa’s First Tech Innovation City through smart technology, thereby turning Enugu into “The Silicon Valley of Africa”.
This was stated in a statement by Brian Okoli. He said: “This ambitious project focuses on building an estate with first-rate infrastructure spread across 25 hectares of land, which focuses on creating a vibrant environment for technology, innovation, and sustainable urban development, driving economic growth and technological advancement in the region.
Enugu’s growth in the tech sector has been remarkable in the last few years. “The state has seen a surge in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which has boosted economic stability and job creation. In 2021, Enugu was ranked as the 5th top startup ecosystem in Nigeria and had the lowest unemployment rate in the southeastern region.
“These achievements highlight the state’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. Building on this momentum, Tech City Africa aims to elevate Enugu to new heights.
“The project’s vision is to create a thriving tech hub that nurtures innovation, attracts investment, and supports sustainable growth. The project will unfold in three phases over several years.
“The first phase focuses on creating the Tech City Africa Development Authority, which will oversee the project, secure funding, and build partnerships through public-private collaborations and investor outreach. A detailed feasibility study and master plan will address infrastructure needs, zoning regulations, and sustainable design principles.
“Legal frameworks will be established to attract and support tech businesses, while a communication strategy will keep stakeholders informed and generate public interest.
“In the second phase, core infrastructure projects will begin, including high-speed internet networks, reliable power grids, and smart transportation systems. “Mixed-use development zones will be constructed, prioritizing co-working spaces, startup incubators, and research facilities. Sustainability will be a key focus, integrating renewable energy sources and green building practices. High-quality housing options will be developed with a focus on walkability and proximity to amenities.
“The final phase will focus on attracting tech startups, established companies, and research institutions by offering incentives and promoting a supportive business environment. Educational programs and training initiatives will be developed in collaboration with universities to equip the local workforce with relevant tech skills.
“A vibrant tech community will be cultivated through events, workshops, and conferences that promote collaboration and knowledge sharing. “The city’s development will be continuously monitored, and strategies adapted based on evolving needs and technological advancements.
“Eastside Ventures, alongside other key partners, including Voice of the East and Bitcoin Chief Gaius Chibueze, has been instrumental in driving this initiative forward.
Eastside Ventures, with a strong vision of building sustainable growth in the southeast through investments, collaborations, and innovative projects, has fully backed this project to ensure it has the maximum resources to achieve its mission.
“Voice of the East’s mission to inform, educate, and influence the Igbo people aligns perfectly with Tech City Africa’s goals, and their contributions have been invaluable in generating support and awareness for the project. Bitcoin Chief, often in partnership with these organizations, has repeatedly supported youths in the southeast by sponsoring initiatives that promote human capital advancements.
Tech City Africa represents a transformative opportunity for Nigeria. “The team involved in this project is committed to collaboration, innovation, and sustainability, aiming to create a thriving tech hub that benefits Enugu and the entire nation. This initiative is a bold step towards positioning Enugu as a global leader in technology and innovation, driving economic growth and creating a prosperous future for all.
Expatiating on the level of precision that has been dedicated to the project. “Our commitment to building a robust technological ecosystem will never falter. The progress we’ve made showcases the potential in Enugu and the southeastern region. With continued support and teamwork, Tech City Africa is set to become a leader in technology, guiding Nigeria into a new era of innovation and success.”
