A bill seeking to amend  Orthopedic Hospitals Management Board Act has been read the first time in the Senate.

It is titled, Orthopedic Hospitals Management Board Act( Amendment) Bill, 2024( SB. 499). The bill was sponsored by the Chairman, Senate Committee on the proposed Reparation and Repertration, Senator Ned Nwoko,  PDP, Delta North.

The Bill seeks to amend the Orthopedic Hospital Management Board Act, Cap. O10 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. 

According to the bill, the proposed amendment will include the establishment of the Orthopedic Hospital in Onicha Ugbo under the jurisdiction of the Orthopedic Hospital Management Board, with an affiliation to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara.

Nwoko’s Bill outlines the need for specialized orthopedic diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and research, addressing a critical gap in healthcare services in Delta State and surrounding regions. The Bill’s explanatory memorandum emphasizes the importance of this establishment in meeting the growing demand for specialized orthopedic care and advancing medical research in the field.
