The Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, has reiterated its commitment to engage relevant stakeholders on the need to address food insecurity in the country.
President of the NSE, Engr. Margaret Oguntala said, the organization would attract funding partners including Bank of Industry, BOI, and Nigerian Export Import Bank, NEXIMBANK, for farmers to scale their agri-businesses, thus driving economic empowerment and food security for Nigeria.
Oguntala said this at the maiden edition of Engr. Ademola Isaac Olorunfemi, FNSE, FAEng Public Discourse and Dinner, held at the NSE Manchester Branch, Northern Powerhouse Stakeholders’ event.
Lamenting the level of food insecurity ravaging the country, she said there was no better time to act than now when the issue has become a matter of urgent importance.
According to her, the food security is not merely about the availability of food; it encompasses accessibility, affordability, and the quality of food necessary for a healthy life.
Speaking on the theme, “Achieving Food Security in Nigeria with Diaspora Engagement”, Oguntala called on all stakeholders to support the food security initiatives in the country.
She said, the Diaspora community possesses vast knowledge, skills, and resources, adding that the engagement of Diaspora professionals can bridge the gap of the nation’s local needs.
