The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria, MARAN has congratulated Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on his one year in office.

The group outlined some of the successes recorded within the period.

In a congratulatory statement signed by President of MARAN, Godfrey Bivbere, said that some of the major achievements was in the area of revenue generation, repositioning the service for optimal performance, collaboration with other sister agencies and reigniting professionalism in the service.

He said Adeniyi took over when the service was in dire need of a core professional to steer the affairs of the service.

Bivbere said one year after, the CGC has lived up to the expectations reposed in him and surpassed.

Recall that the CG initiated the Time Release Study, launched Advanced Ruling and AEO programme, initiated 24 hours work schedule , cleared the port access road that was a nightmare to the port community for 13 years, dismantled the dreaded Strikeforce, reduced the Seme corridor check points amongst other achievements.

His words: “Many stakeholders and Nigerians in general have been clamouring for a career service officer to be at the helm of affairs of the service and so Nigerians were relieved when the announcement was made that he has been appointed as the CG of Customs.

“Like the saying goes, to whom much is given, much is expected, there was a huge expectation from stakeholders and the public in general to see how well he would perform.

“The association is glad to know and see that Adeniyi has not disappointed, he has performed, in repositioning the service for optimal performance and as a critical stakeholder, we are super excited by his performance, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to him,” Bivbere stated
