Governments in Nigeria have been accused of paying lip service to the advancement of technology with its non chalant attitude to technological education across the country.

This was disclosed by the Governing Council Chairman, Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, Mr Diran Odeyemi in company of the Reactor, Dr Samson Adegoke, while speaking with newsmen on Wednesday in Osogbo.

He added that it government at different levels accord half of the attention it gives University to Polytechnic education, the nation’s technological development would have been more advanced than it is now.

According to him, many innovations and invention from polytechnics did not enjoy patronage either from the government or private sector which is major source of concern.

“As much as government at different levels continue to pay lip service to technology, we will be moving around the circle, and no matter how long you travel on the wrong route, there is no other solution than to turn back. We must know when to turn back and refocus our education priority.

“In terms of advancing technology, a nation that is in hurry to develop its technology like we claim in Nigeria, should give emphasis to polytechnics education but the focus is somewhere else here.

“At Esa-Oke in Osun, we have Bluetooth Control Fan, a fan that can be controlled by bluetooth or GSM. We have generator that is GSM controlled, Electric Jack, Bluetooth Control Fan, Weight Control Wheel Barrow, Smart Home Automation, Biometric Attendance, Rfid Smart Security Gate, Programmable Load Shedding System With Remote Unit, Android Based Fan Control System, Access Restricted Integrated Power Monitoring And Control System, among others but there is no patronage.

“The truth is that nobody is looking at Polytechnics education in Nigeria. If we give half of the attention we give to the University to Polytechnic we won’t be where we are today,” he added.
