Nigerians have been assured of the readiness of government to make adequate, quality and accessible healthcare available to all.
The member representing Zango Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Chairman of House Committee on Health Institutions, Honourable Amos Magaji, gave the assurance when he led members of the Committee on an oversight visit to the Federal Medical Center, Asaba.
Magaji expressed satisfaction with the massive infrastructural development at the hospital, which he noted was a sharp departure from what was on ground a few years back.
He said the health sector was very delicate and the federal government would do everything possible to ensure that health workers, consultants and management staff had a conducive environment that would enable them carry out their duties effectively in their various departments.
The Health Committee Chairman added that there would be training and retraining of staff to reduce the effect of brain drain on healthcare delivery in the country.
Hon Magaji advised the healthcare providers not to relent in giving their best , encouraging them to be diligent, as their welfare would be prioritized by the federal government.
The Medical Director of FMC Asaba, Dr Victor Osiatuma, who received the Committee with the top management staff of the hospital, said the health facility had witnessed a significant transformation over time and expressed optimism that the visit would add value to the operations of the hospital, especially in the areas of power supply and the renovation of some facilities.
The meeting also featured deliberation on budget and how to effectively utilise money meant for projects, as well as a guided tour of the hospital’s facilities to identify some of the challenges facing it.
