Benue State House of Assembly
By Peter Duru, Makurdi
The Benue State House of Assembly has screened and cleared seven of the recently nominated Chairman and members of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC.
Recall that the exercise which commenced Thursday with the screening and confirmation of one of the members, Terhemen Shom, and rejection of the Commission’s Secretary nominee, Dr. Vincent Gisaor, continued Friday with the clearing of the remaining six members.
Dr. Gisaor was rejected over issues concerning an alleged post he made on social media considered insulting to the Tiv tribe.
Governor Hyacinth Alia was asked by the House to nominate a replacement for the rejected Secretary nominee.
However at plenary, Friday, the House received an apology letter from Dr. Gisaor which was read by the majority leader, Saater Tiseer.
In the letter Dr. Gisaor explained that his outburst was over the continuous communal crisis at Tyu-mu, a community on the outskirts of Makurdi town.
He pleaded for pardon from the House and those who felt pained by his action.
The final batch of those screened included the Chairman, John Chen, Theodore Uchi, Solomon Deva, Edache Isaac, Mrs. Gloria Clement, and Peter Ogagbolo.
