The ex-Commonwealth and British and World Boxing Association, WBA, Light Heavyweight boxing champion, Peter Oboh, has urged President Bola Tinubu to find an urgent and lasting solution to the hunger in the country.
Oboh said with the prevailing economic downturn, hunger has pushed Nigeria to the egde of crisis.
The ex-pugilist, who is now a cleric, said “Nigeria is close to social and political upheaval. Mr. President has to do something urgent and drastical to ease Nigerians’ pains.”
Oboh said the protest by women who went naked was a show the extent to which things had deteriorated.
His words: “Note that these women that went naked were not just young girls, but peoples wives. People’s mothers, sisters and even grandmothers.
“I have been to the North, South and all over the world, but I have not seen anything like this. This big inflation in Nigerian has led to great hunger in the country.
“I have both the insider and outsider view of things as I’m a Nigerian in the UK currently.
“However, one thing we must know is that this issue is not really caused by President Tinubu. The problem is an evil system that enables any president or head of state to take a massive loan before leaving office.
“Even the late musical legend, Fala Kutti sang about it in his record title ‘Government Magic”.
“I am one of President Tinubu’s biggest fans. So I am pleading with him to take a drastic action. Do something that can stop this hunger. I know it is very possible but it may come with a price on the leader,” the ex-boxing champion concluded.
