Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA yesterday, arrested two suspected members of the ‘Catch in the air ‘ robbery gang popularly called ‘One Chance’ in the Abule-Egba area of Lagos.
Recovered from the suspects was their operational commercial bus with plate number APP 406 YE.
The suspects as gathered, had been terrorising Abule-Egba and its environs before they met their Waterloo.
The gang’s modus oparandi was to pick up unsuspecting commuters at bus stops in Abule-Egba, with some of its members posing as passengers, only to attack their victims, dispossessing them of cash, mobile phones and other valuables.
Thereafter, they would push their victims out of the vehicle and zoom off.
Explaining how luck ran against them yesterday, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA Mr. Adebayo Taofiq , said, “They were being chased by members of the public, when they noticed that a man was pushed down from their vehicle after robbing him of his valuables.
“The suspects drove recklessly to evade arrest. They were eventually caught by LASTMA officials controlling and managing traffic around the Abule-Egba axis.
” Immediately they were arrested, one of them escaped with a P.O.S machine before the arrival of the Policemen.
“Two suspects were later handed over to Policemen from the ‘Ile-Epo’ Police Division for further investigation.
“General Manager of LASTMA Mr Bakare Olalekan, however, appealed to members of the public , particularly commuters to be vigilant and stop boarding commercial buses by the roadside popularity called ‘So-le’ “, he said.
