Olanrewaju Esho: Reshaping the visual storytelling landscape

Olanrewaju Esho, an award-winning wedding filmmaker, live event director, and creative visionary, is renowned for his work in both the wedding and gospel music industries.

With over a decade of experience, Olanrewaju seamlessly blends cinematic storytelling with technical expertise, making him a sought-after figure in these fields.

As the Creative Director at Frontline AV Production, Olanrewaju has made a significant impact on gospel music visuals, working with top artists like Pastor Nathaniel Bassey and Dunsin Oyekan. His work on Nathaniel Bassey’s ‘Names of God’ and ‘Halleluyah’ albums, as well as Dunsin Oyekan’s ‘The Gospel of the Kingdom’ and ‘The Birth Revival’, has captivated millions, earning massive YouTube viewership.

His mastery in coordinating multicam setups, lighting, and sound has helped translate the emotional depth of worship into a visual and spiritual experience.

Olanrewaju’s reputation in wedding cinematography is equally impressive. He has traveled to over eight countries to capture luxurious destination weddings, creating timeless narratives that resonate deeply with his clients. Notably, he filmed the glamorous Lagos wedding of superstar Davido and Chioma and has collaborated with industry many industry giants to create timeless master pieces . His ability to capture the essence of love through cinematic techniques and his focus on storytelling have made his wedding films deeply emotive and cherished by couples.

Beyond individual projects, Olanrewaju’s expertise shines in managing large-scale live productions. He has led significant crews, including a 21 man team for Sunmisola Agbebi’s live recording of ‘My Daddy My Daddy’.

His innovative approach to filmmaking continues to set a high standard, whether it’s documenting life-changing wedding moments or spiritual encounters through worship albums.

Speaking on how he conceptualises his wedding storyline ideas, he said, “One of the most critical aspects of wedding storytelling is understanding the couple’s unique narrative. Before shooting any wedding, I make it a point to have in-depth conversations with the couple. I want to know how they met, what their journey has been like, and the moments that are most important to them. This personal connection allows me to film with purpose, ensuring that every shot has meaning.”

Speaking on the technicalities of live event recording and production, he continued, “Live event timing is perhaps the most crucial element in managing a large-scale production. Unlike a studio environment, where you can reshoot and adjust, live events offer no second chances. Every shot, every camera switch, and every lighting cue has to be executed with precision. For worship recordings like Sunmisola Agbebi’s, the timing becomes even more critical because worship is not scripted. Emotional highs and spontaneous moments of connection with the audience cannot be predicted, yet they must be captured perfectly.

To manage timing effectively, I use real-time communication tools, such as headsets and a centralized control room, to ensure that all team members are synchronized. During Sunmisola’s live recording, I was in constant communication with the camera operators, directing them to capture spontaneous moments—such as a worshipper breaking into tears or the congregation singing along. The ability to make split-second decisions and relay them to the team is a skill honed by years of experience in live event production.”

Olanrewaju’s unique blend of creativity, faith, and technical excellence continues to shape the landscape of visual storytelling across the globe.
