Nigerian Technology Lawyer Wins TechQuest Cybersecurity Excellence Award 2023

Nigerian cybersecurity governance specialist and lawyer Folashayo Oluwatoyin Abiodun has been announced as the winner of the TechQuest International Innovation Award 2023 in the Cybersecurity Excellence category. The award ceremony, hosted by Tixafest Solutions, celebrates outstanding African professionals driving innovation and trust in digital ecosystems.

Out of more than two dozen nominees from across Africa, Ms. Abiodun distinguished herself as one of five winners selected for this prestigious award. Her leadership in designing and implementing a threat remediation framework, which resulted in a documented 50% reduction in recurring cyber incidents, played a key part in the selection.

The initiative, carried out over the past year, brought together legal, cybersecurity, and operational teams to build risk safeguards aligned with global standards such as ISO 27001 and SOX. This cross-disciplinary approach underlined her ability to translate complex compliance and legal mandates into practical security measures.

Ms. Abiodun, who holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Technology and was trained in law in Nigeria, currently oversees cybersecurity governance, identity and access management (IAM), and compliance assurance at her organisation. Her experience spans over 4 years, during which she has become known for seamlessly bridging regulatory requirements with technical strategy.

Beyond her core professional achievements, Ms. Abiodun is known among peers for her principled work ethic, calm leadership, and passion for empowering others. She has supported internal training initiatives for junior professionals in cybersecurity, often sharing her knowledge of regulatory frameworks and practical strategies for compliance.

Though she has not yet published in academic circles, her internal contributions to enterprise policy development and her involvement in compliance audits have been instrumental in shaping governance practices within her organization.

Her vision remains clear: to become a global authority in cybersecurity governance and technology law, shaping policies and systems that are not only secure and efficient but ethical and future-ready.

At the TechQuest event, company executives commended Ms. Abiodun for her work in elevating organizational resilience: “Her leadership not only reduced risk, but also created a lasting culture of accountability and legal‑tech alignment,” said one judge.

Reflecting on her achievement, Ms. Abiodun shared:

“This recognition is not just for me, it’s a nod to the powerful impact that clear legal frameworks and collaborative security can make in protecting institutions.”

Her win is expected to inspire the next generation of African cybersecurity professionals and technology lawyers by demonstrating how legal insight can deliver real-world security outcomes.

Established by Tixafest Solutions, the TechQuest Awards aim to highlight African excellence in technology innovation, with a special focus on contributions in enterprise solutions, governance, and digital ethics.
