The Nigeria men’s basketball team, D’Tigers will not be at the FIBA World Cup holding this year after missing out on qualification, losing 65-59 to Angola on Sunday.
The competition is scheduled to be jointly hosted by multiple nations in Asia; the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia and will hold from 25 August to 10 September 2023.
Reacting to his team’s failure to make it to the World Cup, coach of the Nigeria team, Ogoh Odaudu, described it as ‘too bad’ despite the good fight they put up.
“It’s too bad that we did not make it to the World Cup but I think we put up a good fight and we can say we are proud of ourselves,” he said.
In the Group E standing, D’Tigers finished fourth, one spot away from the top three spots eligible for qualification,
Côte d’Ivoire topped the group, Angola came in second with Cape Verde completing the contingent from the group to represent Africa.
South Sudan and Egypt are Africa’s other two representatives in the FIBA World Cup after finishing first and second respectively in Group F.
