Only few producers understand this duality as clearly as Orobzz, whose work continually operates in the space between grit and grace. On Dxnzel’s “Mine”, Orobzz proves once again that his production sets the tone for many artists to work their magic.
The song begins with a quiet pull. Afro-Rnb borrows a lot from soul elements, and Orobzz utilizes some of that with the gentle entry. There is no rush to overwhelm the listener; instead, the tension is gently built as the second’s tick. By the time the drums enter, you are welcomed into the intensity of the song. The beat is sparsely populated, yet it packs enough of a punch to carry Dxnzel’s verse. Here, the snares are sharp and the percussive elements around them offer rhythm without overwhelming the base element. Every instrument played can be felt to drive the feeling of the record rather than drown it.
Orobzz builds a certain contrast within the production. He layers the shakers to hover over the drums like a soft haze. They do not need much attention, but they add texture to “Sapa”. This balance is what makes Dxnzel’s performance shine. His verses are filled with urgency, leaning into the energetic yet playful subject matter of the song. Orobzz ensures they are never lost in the production, creating a canvas that gives enough room for each act to do their thing. The beat bubbles and shifts subtly between the artists, which is a mark of a producer attuned to the energetic shifts within a record.
As you listen, you notice how “Mine” avoids the trap of sounding monotonous. The song is dynamic and unfolds with intent as its layers shift in and out to create a sense of progression. A hi-hat tick may fade in one part of the song while another melody generates at another part, and the drums may thin out before returning with renewed force. These variations give the track shape, turning it into a journey rather than a loop. Orobzz never allows the listener to drift into boredom, instead taking them on a ride through peaks and valleys, ensuring the narrative of the record remains intact from start to finish.
Orobzz’s display of skill results in a record that showcases the best of Rnb in Afrobeats. It reflects the talent on show within the genre despite the realities of the artists, but it still has time to be fun and engaging. Orobzz’s production engineer’s moments of euphoria and expression, carving out space for voices to matter and for music to exist in its full, undiluted form.
With “Mine,” Orobzz shows another aspect of his artistic range. It proves his versatility and underscores his growing influence in shaping the sound of contemporary afo-rnb. In his hands, production etches into the realm of sound design and with each new song, Orobzz is presenting himself as a force to be reckoned with in Nigerian music.
