ALL is now set for the inauguration of new leadership for the National Association of Nigerian Students in Abuja on Thursday, November 10, 2022.
This was made known yesterday by a former Senate President of the apex students’ body, Olalekan Smart Edward, at a briefing where he stated that the two factions of the organization have resolved all areas of discord.
According to him, the intervention of stakeholders in the leadership crisis that had hitherto rocked NANS ushered in a new dawn of peace, reconciliation, and recovery for the organisation.
He also said it was a no victor and no-vanquished situation for individual members of NANS, but rather a collective victory for the entire students in the country.
His words, “All dispute resolution mechanisms were triggered and all aggrieved parties were brought to the table and a new course was championed for us all.
“It is a case of win-win for all as there was no victor no vanquished, rather, at the end of it all the victory is accrued to Nigerian students.
“We are very committed to running an all-inclusive government of NANS where the total welfare and well-being of every Nigeria student both at home and in the diaspora will be of paramount interest. .
“Having said this, the inauguration of all new executive members will now hold on Thursday, 10th November, 2022 at the NAF Conference Center, Abuja.
“As an organization going forward, we will resist any attempt by any political party or politician aimed at encouraging or promoting division in our noble organization.
“Nothing will stop Nigerian Students from working as one indivisible entity during the forthcoming general election in deciding who and who lead us as leaders.”
Also speaking, a former NANs President, Comrade Jude Imagwe stressed the need for sustained unity and peace in the Association for the benefit of students.
He commended Comrade Umar and his supporters giving him an assurance of support always for his sacrifice.
Comrade Farouk Umar said he stepped aside for peace and unity in NANs and urged his supporters to give maximum loyalty to the NANs President.
Comrade Umar explained that some political leaders, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Muhammadu Badaru of Jigawa State contributed to the resolution of the crisis in NANs.
He explained that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had invited him to join his campaign council and that since NANs were apolitical, he needed to step aside.
The NANs President, Comrade Usman Barambu gave an assurance of an inclusive government and advised students across the country to get their voters card and participate actively in the forthcoming General Election.
Comrade Barambu stressed that the interest of students would continue to be given priority throughout his administration.
