Human Rights Day: Nigerians should have access to equitable justice – Aderinokun

The Akinruyiwa of Owu Kingdom, Chief Olumide Aderinokun, on Friday, stressed the need for every Nigerian to have access to equitable justice irrespective of financial status and background.

He stated this when he joined Headfort Foundation, in launching the ‘Lawyers’ Office’ in Ogun Central senatorial district for free legal services.

The initiative was part of activities to celebrate this year’s International Human Rights Day, which is celebrated on December 10 of every year.

The lawyers’ office tagged ‘Lawyers without Borders’ is located inside the Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta South Local Government Area and would provide free legal assistance to indigenes of the senatorial zone in particular and the state at large.

Aderinokun also called on the relevant authorities and the government to work on decongesting the Correctional Centres that have been stretched beyond the limit.

Prior to the launching of the office, a seminar was held at the Ago-Egun community hall in which Chief Aderinokun alongside traditional leaders, officials from the Correctional Centres in Ogun State, representatives of the Ministry of Justice and Department of Public Prosecution were in attendance.

Headfort Foundation was founded by a legal adviser, Oluyemi Adetiba Orija, who was recently named in the BBC 100 Women for the year 2021.
