Talented musician, Reuel Elijah, says being a music legend is not as easy as many people think these days.

He applauded the likes of King Sunny Ade, Femi Kuti, D’Banj, 2Baba, Eedris Abdul Kareem and Ruggedman, who have contributed a lot to the Nigerian music industry as legends.

Reuel Elijah disclosed this when he was speaking about what he has learnt in his journey as a professional musician.

He acknowledged that being a musician is one thing, being a legendary musician is another.

However, to attain the stage where people would refer to him as a legendary artiste is not a child’s play.

The 25-year-old experienced performer and singer said the aim of many musicians is to be respected and recognised like King Sunny Ade, 2Baba and other aforementioned artistes.

“Emerging talents want to be known and be called legend, but they need to understand the title ‘legend’ is not something one can achieve overnight, it requires a lot of meaningful work and consistency,” he said.

Speaking further on what he has learnt as a professional musician, Reuel Elijah stated; “I’m in my 7th year of music now and I can say I’ve learnt a lot! You know, people always think it’s going to be easy to be a legend, but the truth is, it’s not.

Your career, mixed with purpose, and originality all plays a part, but you gotta get to know those things first. And you never stop learning and growing.”

Reuel Elijah also narrated how he started music. He said music has always been part of his family and he grew up in a family of music.

In his words; “Music for me has always been a part of my household. My mother and father would always play music. Coming from a church background also, I guess you could say my father was musically talented, he played the organ and my mother was part of a choir.

I started off singing with my voice coach “ThreeJai” – and I was part of a collective called EYK (Expression of the Young Kind) – we would do community shows singing covers and later on someone of our own material.”

Reuel Elijah released his debut music in 2013 when he did a cover to Canadian rapper and singer Drake’s ‘Girls Love Beyonce’. The song earned him over 12,000 views on his YouTube channel that year.
