LAFIA—NASARAWA State House of Assembly, yesterday, declared vacant the seat of a member representing Wamba constituency, Mr. Makpa Malla, who dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Speaker of the House, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, read the member’s defection letter on the floor of the House after the Majority Leader, Tanko Tunga, had moved a motion and was seconded by Deputy Majority Leader, Daniel Ogazi, to declare the member’s seat vacant in Lafia.

Abdullahi said, however, that the House would have investigated the member’s defection, but with the voice votes from members that the seat be declared vacant, the House could not continue with the probe.

He then directed the clerk of the House to communicate the development officially to Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Tunga had, while moving the motion, explained that “Makpa, in his letter, said there is a division in the party. He cited the emergence of R-APC and APC leadership as reasons for his defection.”
