Land dispute generates tension in Delta community

By Jimitota Onoyume

WARRI—DELTA State Government has been urged to intervene to resolve a looming crisis in Osubi community, Okpe Local Government Area of the state, over a land measuring over 143,000 square metres allegedly sold illegally.

Briefing newsmen in Warri, Delta State, Rev William Okotie, flanked by some members of Idiare family, said failure of the state government and security agencies to step into the matter could lead to breakdown of law and order in the community.

According to Rev Okotie, “government should immediately step into the matter by calling all parties together to resolve the matter in the interest of equity, fair play and natural justice before the situation gets out of control.

“It will be wrong and a miscarriage of justice and disregard for the laws of the land for government to make the mistake of issuing certificates of occupancy for such property.

“The family is appealing to all land speculators, which include those that had bought and those that have gone ahead to build on the said lands, to revert to the Idiare family for proper settlement of the issues or out rightly vacate the land to avoid unplea-sant situations.”
