ABUJA – The leadership of Labour Party, LP, Monday, raised the alarm over alleged attempt by unscrupulous element to impersonate its National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam.
The party, in a statement issued in Abuja, dispelled rumours of any form of leadership change in the party, saying Abdulsalam remained the only authentic national chairman recognised by the Independent National electoral Commission, INEC.
The Labour Party also advised the public, especially the party supporters and followership to ignore the antic of some political hawks, who it said are trying to cause imaginary disaffection within the party’s hierarchy.
Recall the INEC, while recently confirming the Abdulsalam the authentic chairman of the party by its Chief Press secretary, Rotimi Lawrence Oyekanmi, noted the Commission has not changed from its recognition of Abdulsalam as the party’s boss.
The statement by Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam said, “The attention of the Labour Party, LP, has drawn to a recent press statement/conference by one Mr. Mike Omotosho who claimed to be the National Chairman of the party.
“Mr. Mike Omotosho was once the Guber candidate of the party in kwara State who was dismissed for anti-party activities; he later returned back to his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after the 2015 general elections.
“This we be our last pres statement on this issue because for the avoidance of doubt, the National Chairman of Labour Party is Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, who was elected at our National Convention on the 11th October, 2014 in Ondo State.
“Please, kindly disregard any purported claims by the impostor who has set out with members of his cohort to deceive and mislead members of the public for their selfish reasons.
“Mr. Mike Omotosho claiming to be National Chairman of Labour Party, LP, through media is an attempt to fraudulently steal using the instrumentality of the press should be condemned by all people of good will.
“Although authentic members of the Labour Party are not in doubt as to who their National Chairman is. Labour Party wishes to appeal to members of the public and our very reputable and respected members of the forth estate of the realm to seek further clarification from the regulatory body responsible for the management of registered political parties in Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.”
