The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) to cancel the local government election in Ethiope West and conduct fresh elections in the area.

Ethiope West APC Chairman, Comrade Williams Deniran, made the call at the weekend.

“Apart from the fact that the elections commenced very late, it was also characterized by irregularities and electoral malpractices”, he stated.

“Several units and wards did not get materials while some of the units and wards that got were either incomplete or snatched by thugs.

“Also, the polls did not hold in Oghara, Mosogar and Wards 5&6 of Jesse. The other four wards were won by the APC but they turned everything against us saying we did not win.

“The majority of voters were disenfranchised which is the reason we are calling on DSIEC to cancel the elections. My party’s Returning Officer refused to sign the result sheets compiled by DSIEC because we strongly believe that elections did not hold and we are calling on DSIEC to conduct fresh elections in Ethiope West”.

While advising his party’s supporters to remain calm and maintain the peace, Deniran assured that he would work with leaders of the APC at the state and national levels to ensure that justice prevailed.

Meanwhile, youths in Idjerhe Kingdom have been advised to shun political violence. This advice was handed down by the state Assistant Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief London Akpanoko.

The PDP leader said, “Though my party won the just concluded council elections in Ethiope as well as other council areas in the state, I am not pleased with the way Idjerhe youths conducted themselves during the elections,” enjoining them to be of good conduct in future elections.
